A tale of Benin and a Traditional wedding...

Hey!!
I was in the "ancient city" of Benin last weekend for the traditional wedding of my 4th grade bestie Ivie. If you follow me on Instagram (what are you waiting for if you don't) you've probably already seen this look...
Honestly, I am not the biggest fan of Asoebi probably because I don't like dealing with tailors and their wahala (stress) but I might be a convert. This fabric is gorgeous and the tailor did an awesome job. I opted for a skirt and a wrapper instead of the double wrapper look because I felt this was better for my frame and I didn't want the hassle associated with wearing wrapper.

Checking out my Gele (head tie), luckily for me there was a makeup artist at the hotel that I paid to tie my gele cause I would have been clueless. I already had my trusty edge control handy in case... I actually think the lady did a fab job with the gele plus it wasn't too tight score!! although I have been told I was swindled Lol...

after doing my make up I take a bunch of #selfies to make sure my makeup is applied properly. No harsh lines, everything blended you know? (Tell me I'm not the only one that does this)

The ceremony was beautiful, this was my first Benin/Itsekiri wedding and it was interesting to see the difference in culture. The place was jam packed! There were performances by a lot of musicians but can I say that Sir Victor Uwaifo's was by far my favourite! "Joromi" brought back memories..Loved it! I made a few new "friends" and bumped into some old ones.
I was too busy having fun to take "proper" pictures but I did sneak in a few selfies..

Uwanna, Yingi and I  (and my hand lol)

And the night was over, I didn't drink but it was fun to watch those who did, there were so many "turnt" people.  Lol
It was definitely an experience that I won't forget quickly.

This weekend is so different from last weekend as I'm currently in bed watching keeping up with the Kardashians and I will probably be in bed for most of the day. Any plans for the weekend?

Xo,
Genevieve
